Broome Community College Presidential Search Committee Selects 3 Finalists For College President

(TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College’s Presidential Search Committee has selected three finalists for the position of College President.

They are:

Dr. Michael Burke: Dr. Burke has over 25 years of experience in community colleges. He was named President of San Jose City College in March, 2007. Prior to moving to San Jose, he served as President of North Idaho College from 1998 to 2007, and he spent 13 years at Eastfield College of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) in Texas. He served there as Division Chair, Dean of Educational Resources, Dean of Career and Continuing Education, and Vice President of Finance and Planning. He began his career as a faculty member at a community college in South Texas. Dr. Burke has a doctorate in Educational Administration from the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas at Austin, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in English from the University of Houston, and certificates of completion from Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management and the League for Innovation’s Executive Leadership Institute. Dr. Cheri Jimeno: Dr. Jimeno is currently the President of New Mexico State University Alamogordo, one of four comprehensive community colleges within the New Mexico State University System. Dr. Jimeno has a B. A. in Business Administration, a M.S. in Business, and a Ph.D. in Education and Business Information Systems. In addition to her current position as President, Dr. Jimeno served in Montana’s higher education system as a professor, dean and provost. She has received numerous awards in teaching and administration, including a Fulbright Lectureship to the College of the Bahamas. Dr. Cheri Jimeno
Dr. Kevin Drumm: Dr. Drumm has been president of the Northern Wyoming Community College District since 2004. The district comprises two colleges in Sheridan and Gillette and also Sheridan College Johnson County. Prior to becoming president of NWCCD Drumm was for 6 years Vice President for Enrollment/Student & Public Affairs at Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, MA. Before arriving at STCC, Drumm held a variety of student services and academic affairs positions at community colleges, universities, and private colleges, ranging from Student Life Director and Assistant Academic Dean to Vice President for Student Affairs at a New Hampshire community college. He has taught throughout his career and is also a graduate of the first American Association of Community Colleges Leadership Institute. He was educated at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Mass. transferring to Boston University for both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, later completing his PhD in Organizational Studies and Higher Education at New York University. “The Presidential Search Committee has selected three very distinguished and experienced candidates for consideration and I want to commend the committee on how hard they worked and the outstanding job they did.” said Dr. Angelo Mastrangelo, Co-Chair of the Search Committee and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “While this has been a lengthy search process, it was vital to the Board of Trustees that we collectively select the best individual possible to lead Broome and bring the College to the next level. Once again this process resulted in educators and leaders of the highest caliber applying to Broome, which is indicative of the quality of our institution.”

The Presidential Search Committee interviewed six semi finalists on October 31st and November 1st. The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) recommended 11 resumes for the Search Committee to review. The first candidate, Dr. Cheri Jimeno, will visit BCC on Friday, November 13, 2009.
